Surakarta is a traditional Indonesian battle game originally drawn in the sand and played with shells versus pebbles. The game is named after an ancient town on the island of Java from where it is believed to originate, and is remarkable by the unusual way in which enemy pieces are captured. The objective of the game is to take all of the opponent's pieces.
