Cavalry Knight with Battle Lance.

The medieval cavalry knights were the tanks of their age. As they were mostly rich noblemen, they had the latest armour, not just for themselves, but also for their horses as well, who looked absolutely terrifying. Their role was to scare the enemy, as hundreds (sometimes thousands) would thunder their way towards ranks of enemy foot-soldiers, then batter them when they got there. The most fantastsic displays of this miliatary killing machines was when rival cavalries would charge against each other. This would result in unimaginable mayhem.

Later on in the Middle Ages, the role of the cavalry was changed to "Mounted Men - at - Arms", which is when sieging castles became more frequent.

Charging a castle on horseback rarely ends happily for the rider.

This figure can be dis-mounted and exchange his horse with another equestrian soldier.
